Who Knows where the wind blows?

Energy as an Interface

Who know’s where the wind blow’s was exhibited at the ‘Casa dell’Energia’, Foundation AEM’s Energy museum and Cultural hub, during Milan Design week 2006.

Information and Energy

Unlike a normal plug socket, a USB device can deliver both energy and information, could the information control the device? Rather than the traditional interface of a ‘fan’ – the project uses information to control the speed of the fan. The ‘onscreen’ interface allows the user to select a geographical location in the world, and upon doing so the ‘fan’ will simulate the wind speed of that location.

Does one use the Fan to cool down or to receive information?

As a widget works – we can link this information to other interests, for example ‘the potential power’ created by the wind of that zone, how many homes, factories could be powered, the possible CO2 savings or moving on to tourist information, could you book a meal, check weather, sailing, tide information?

Working as a system

Air-conditioning has become a major consumer of energy over the last five years, isn’t there another way to cool ourselves? This project explores the beauty and natural luxury of a fresh breeze on a hot, humid day, a thought-provoking idea that suggests it is possible to take wind from one place and, by using its own energy, recreate itself in another place through means of a fan.
